Would have put Paul Revere and The Raiders, with their Revolutionary War tricorn hats and frilly jackets, truly to shame).\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>So, if you\u2019ve drifted over here from your avidly read copy of <em>Ticket Stubs &amp; Liner Notes<\/em> and really do care to know which bands in \u201cThe Name Game\u201d are real and which flat out faux, in the text below the actual bands are in <strong>bold,<\/strong> the fakes in <em>italics<\/em>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>(And lastly for the younger set, a bit of \u201chistory\u201d that\u2019s perhaps worth noting.\u00a0 In that once upon a time of the Sixties, oregano was often peddled to na\u00efve young customers who thought they were paying for what has since become legal in a few states but wasn\u2019t then.\u00a0 One evening in Napa, 1967? 1968?, some eager teens were happily toking away when the police arrived and took them off to jail.\u00a0 I\u2019ve often wondered whether the police were more embarrassed that they\u2019d seized a lid of oregano or whether the kids were more embarrassed at the groovy high they thought they were enjoying.\u00a0 Ah, yes, Oregano Doobie.)<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-verse\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><strong>The Summer of Love aka The Name Game<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-verse\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>Moby Dick and the Seamen<\/em><br \/><strong>Tongue &amp; Groove<\/strong><br \/><em>Hatch &amp; the Boobies<\/em><br \/><em>Student Deferment<\/em><br \/><em>The Trite, Tired &amp; Clich\u00e9d Blues &amp; Boogie Band<\/em><br \/><em>Eloi &amp; The Time Machine<\/em><br \/><em>Derridean Debris<\/em><br \/><em>Homegrown &amp; The ZigZags<\/em><br \/><em>The Leaves of Grass<\/em><br \/><em>Kiss My Ass<\/em><br \/><em>This Too Shall Pass<\/em><strong><br \/>Salvation Army Banned<\/strong><br \/><em>Janus and The Ambivalence<\/em><br \/><em>Green Lantern &amp; The Clips<\/em><br \/><em>The Domino Effect<\/em><br \/><em>Spiral Agnew<\/em><br \/><em>The Moving Sidewalk<\/em><br \/><em>Hot Rod &amp; The Tricycle<\/em><br \/><em>Wheelchair Satori<\/em><br \/><em>Sen-Sen Zen<\/em><br \/><em>The Oregano Doobie<\/em><br \/><em>John Phillip Sousa Groove Machine<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>And, yes, the list could go on.\u00a0 And on.\u00a0 And on.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>A few addenda:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Salvation Army Banned<\/strong> was originally named Salvation Army Band.\u00a0 The Salvation Army sued, and thus \u201cBand\u201d morphed to \u201cBanned.\u201d\u00a0The Salvation Army sued again, and so the band was merely Salvation by the time the first of its two albums hit the stores.\u00a0<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Joy of Cooking\u2019s<\/strong> three delectable albums on Capitol should not be forgotten.\u00a0Thank you Toni Brown and Terry Garthwaite for a joyous evening when my buddy and I wandered by chance into the Jabberwocky that night in Berkeley.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Father Grumble<\/strong> was led by my high school classmate Patrick Flynn.\u00a0 You can find Patrick\u2019s albums streaming on Tidal and for sale as downloads and physical media on CD Baby.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Sanpaku<\/strong> opened the bill the night I saw Blind Faith, the short-lived group featuring Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Steve Winwood.\u00a0 Sanpaku was a highlight of the show, along with the iteration of Delaney and Bonnie with Leon Russell leading the band.\u00a0 To the best of my knowledge, Sanpaku never recorded.\u00a0 Wish they had.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Moby Grape<\/strong>: ever to be remembered for that first awesome album.\u00a0 And if you weren\u2019t \u201cthere\u201d then and need to know, the answer to the question \u201cWhat\u2019s purple and lives at the bottom of the sea?\u201d\u00a0Mentioned because not every thing deserves to be remembered, but that first album and various tracks strewn across the later albums should be.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Serpent Power<\/strong>: led by poet David Meltzer and propelled by poet Clark Coolidge on the drum set.\u00a0 But not, alas, to be found in <em>The Norton Anthology of Poetry<\/em>.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Dan Hicks &amp; His Hot Licks<\/strong>: one of my high school classmates, I later heard, was invited to join Dan as one of the\u201cLickettes,\u201d but demurred when she realized she was expected to more than sing licks.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>The Moving Sidewalk<\/strong>: Billy Gibbons, he later of Z.Z.
